The CP3 is a two stage pump that draws the fuel from the tank through the EDU to supply cooling and factory filter into the low pressure stage. It uses a CP3 high pressure pump to supply this fuel. The first thing it needs to do is supply fuel to the fuel injectors, it must also supply fuel to cool and lubricate the injectors. Let’s start where Bosch did and look at what happening within the fuel system and its requirements. Once this happens you put more stress on the components and will cause them to fail prematurely. In its original configuration it works OK but as soon as you begin adding things like additional filters, performance enhancements and such, you quickly overrun the capability of the system. The fuel system on the Duramax has some basic things in it that unless your willing to do some major changes will cause limitations in the power output of the motor as well as longevity of the components once you upgrade the power level.
